07 fiesta 1.4tdci advice needed

Featured Replies

OK so first off I know this will be IMPOSSIBLE to confirm as it's noise related but I'm hoping someone can give some pointers on where to look/check. Also I'll put everyone at ease now and say any advice anyone gives me I take at my own risk and anything broken in the process is my own fault.

right that out the way I'll try explain my "issue" but first a quick bit of background as from what i been reading it could be relevant, 2.5k miles ago it had a new timing belt with pump and tentioner, it also had a new bolt but the crank pulley wasn't changed. Not too long after I started to now and then hear a noise from the front driver side. The only way I can explain the sound is its like an old diesel truck when its cold sort of grunty ish. done a bit of digging and found the crank pulley has some sort of damper on the back of it that can wear and figured it would be that. moving on a couple of weeks and the noise became more and more noticeable but that was when I also noticed it was a lot worse if I was turning right or going up hill or with some sort of power down (not flooring it just giving it enough to do what its needs) so now I'm thinking it could be drive shaft related, the cv don't click when full locked or at any point. so I'm thinking maybe the bearing.

Any advice on what/how to check anything any of you think it could be I'm more than ready to give it a try. I would rather spend a few hours finding out what I NEED than start ordering and changing parts until I find it.

Thanks in advance for any replies  🙂

well as normal i got delayed and haven't had chance to update. changed the driveshaft and it has eliminated the slap on gear changes and braking / accelerating. The odd noise when turning is still there though and clearly getting worse but im still no closer to finding it. haven't been able to get a audio clip and only way i can describe it is a grumbling sort of like a cold old diesel engine at low rev's. sound is more audible under load and almost sounds like its the engine but there is no sound at all other then normal engine running when turning the other way.

car has had new wishbones, new drop links, new brakes and now a new driveshaft also on the driver side. not sure if its reliant but its also had a new timing belt and did split a power steering pipe at one point and was driven about 30 miles almost dry. new pipe fitted and fluid refilled steering itself all feels fine, no shake no judder and car handles quite well for what it is.

any suggestions on what to look at would be great as im running out of ideas.

thanks in advance as always
