Broken Ford Fiesta

Featured Replies

Don’t know if anyone can help or advise, but I have a 2014 Fiesta Zetec, with a failed ecoboost engine. 62,000 miles, and I have owned it for 5 months. No problems, until a week ago when the engine just stopped working. No drama, noise, smoke or red warnings, it just stopped. RAC unable to fix at roadside, so recovered to my local garage. They are telling me it has no compression, but they are unable or not prepared to run diagnostics on it. It cost me 5,000 GBP, and was running fine, and I need it to get to work. Local Ford dealer can run diagnostics, but at cost of 129GBP minimum, and I need to get it there, quoted 150GBP plus VAT. I need to know what I can do with it, as it owes me money, but is worthless if it doesn’t drive. Any advice/ repairer details appreciated.

Did you buy it with any finance or on a credit card?

If so, reject it

That's an unfortunate situation.

It's most likely that coolant escaped, the engine quickly overheated and has damaged the block or blown the headgasket.

Did they say whether it had lost compression on just one cylinder or all of them?  I assume they have at least tested the compression?

I know it's not the answer you want, but in the majority of 1.0 EcoBoost failures a replacement engine is required.  Looking at a few thousand pounds for the repair.

I wouldn't bother with a Ford dealer diagnosis if there's no compression, it's already too far gone for them to do anything other than replace, and Ford dealer labour costs are huge.

Hello Graham, that's bad news but sadly quite normal for that engine. Please listen to the advice of Tom. The engine is now scrap, even Henry Ford couldn't put it back together. Don't spend money on diagnoses they will charge you a lot of money just to tell you the engine is scrap.

A new replacement engine can be bought from Puma Speed who will even fit it for you, total cost is around £3000. You won't find a better deal.

did you buy the car private or dealer, was there any support offered by dealer if so? Very annoying either way.

Ford only charged me a bit over 1000 pound for a engine replacment. Depends on the garage and how generous they are feeling I suppose.

Well that's excellent news !! 👍 That's about £600 cheaper than getting the wet belt changed.

Which Ford dealer is that ? as I'm sure they will be able to help 100's of Ecoboom owners.

It was evans halshaw wolverhampton but the engine was making a noise and they recognised it as a known issue apparently so they discounted it.

Noting that the garage it was transported to haven't been very forthcoming in their diagnosis, I would risk the expense of taking it to a Ford dealer.

The Facebook 'ecoboom' page has numerous examples where Ford have coughed up, albeit in very specific circumstances.

Under £200 to grill Ford (with a chance of a big discount) vs BIG money to replace the engine at your cost - I personally would sound them out.

Ford won't pay for an 8 year old car -even if it has had a yearly main dealer service with the correct oil - which it probably hasn't.

My car is a 14 plate lol
