Modifications to Ford Fiesta Mk6 2016 EcoBoost 1.0L.

Featured Replies

Hello Ladies, Gents, Binary and Non-Binary people.

I'm new to the hole owning my own car stuff so I am already looking at possible modifications to do to my car how ever I have no idea where to start.

If any one has any recommendations on where to start I would be ever so great full.

Hi, welcome.

Firstly, what you have is usually referred to, certainly on here, as a Mk 7.5 (Mk 7 facelift).

It might be helpful if you could clarify exactly what version you have (Titanium, Zetec, etc, and what power output - 100/125/140? ) and what (and why) you wish to modify things, e.g. are you thinking of cosmetic modifications, ICE upgrades, enhanced performance or handling, etc.

Thank You for Clarifying that its a MK 7 Facelift was always confused even so when I check the number plate it says its a mk6.

Its a the 100ps variant that is the titanium trim and I wish to modify it in so that it has a slight power increase (cause 100hp is not enough to overtake some vehicles some times) and so that it handles better and probably a few cosmetic modifications as well.

Yes, it's a confusing thing which goes back to when the Mk 4 was facelifted. It was so comprehensive that the UK took to calling it the Mk 5, to the rest of the world it was a Mk 4 facelift or Mk 4.5 if you will.

So we've been out of step with the world and one Mk ahead ever since. Caution is therefore needed when ordering parts, some websites will recognise it as a Mk 6, as you have found.

Don't know how "slight" a power increase you're after, most remaps will take your engine to around 150ps. Superchips Bluefin is a popular choice, but there are plenty of others.

Any tuning/mods will affect your insurance of course, and you may know that the Mk 7.5 gearbox is not particularly strong and has been known to wilt even on a standard 140. Also consider how long you intend to keep the car and how much you are prepared to spend on it. Your car is about 4 years away from a cambelt change which is very expensive on these engines - £1400 or more at main dealers.

On suspension, the Fiesta on standard suspension is a very good ride/handling compromise. You might sharpen things up with different (lower) springs, firmer dampers and wider wheels and tyres, but at the expense  of ride comfort.

If you haven't already done so, have a look at the "Ford Project and Build Threads" section of the site for some ideas on what other members have done.

Also a glance through a few tuning specialists websites will give some ideas on what is available and costs,e.g.

It does seem that overall, you want slightly more power (like a 125 or 140 ST-Line), slightly sharper handling (like an ST-Line) and possibly sportier looks (like an ST-Line), so rather than spend a lot of money, have the insurance hassle of a modified car, etc, it may be worth considering keeping your car as it is and trading up in the future.

Of course, you may be looking for a long term project and the satisfaction of doing things for yourself, but just saying..........

Superchips bluefin remap (safe, reliable and about 150 BHP), good quality oil and fuel, 17" wheels and ST-Line body kit will upgrade it nicely

I intend to keep the car for a quite a long as its my first car and I enjoy it. As for the tuning if most common remap is a 150BPH remap is the best one to go with I guess. As for the subject on the gearbox struggling to handle 140HP is there something I can do about that?

As for trading the car in for something better at a later date, it has been on my mind how ever even with a few extra years of driving under my belt will still have expansional high insurance, and continuing the subject of insurance on the current car it will go up...

Right now this is all dreams for the future but there's nothing wrong with planning for a future project.

Other than not flooring it in 1st gear, no. Keep an eye on the fluid and don't rag it

A remapped car will probably cost more to insure than buying the 140PS to start with.

Just a note, the bluefin system is easily installed on a handset AND just as easily removed, if need be😘

As Dave says, cheapest thing is to go easy in the lower gears.

More drastic options include swapping the box for the 6 speed found in the Mk 8, though there have been reports of trouble with those too. A very interesting thread here on fitting a stronger 6 speed Focus box, but a fair amount of work involved: https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/107127-focus-6-sp-into-fiesta-mk75-10/
