1.0T ecoboost remap

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm looking at remapping my ecoboost 1.0T they say from 99bhp to 145bhp

Is the engine able to take this ?

Thanks

Rob

Engine, probably yes. The 5 speed box is known to be a weak point though.

And of course you're only 2-3 years from the wet belt change so need to budget for that.

What is the wet belt

Expensive.

The cam belt, which on these engines runs in oil hence "wet".

it is a known failure issue in engines which have not had regular oil changes with the correct oil, leading to degradation of the belt, blocked oil pump strainer and total failure.

You will not have to search far on the forum to find one of hundreds of threads on the issue.

Got a quote from a ford specialist £1200 or £1400 with the oil pump I think. It rather makes the car expensive to run

It depends at what point you start your ownership, really. Over a 10 or more year period from new, it would probably work out no worse than a "normal" engine requiring cam belt changes at 4 or 5 years. But in most cases, the first and/or second owners will have moved on by 7 years or so, leaving someone else to pick up the big bill!

Looks like you got a couple of good quotes. Ford Main Dealers are now charging at least £1450, but many are now charging £1700. A replacement engine from PumaSpeed is around £3000

Engine, yes no problem. I am over 75,000 miles and running Pumaspeed stage 3 map and mods. My car was re mapped at 2000 miles as I wanted more so I then went to the Pumaspeed map and love it just I now want more again.

Gearbox will not last long if you like hammering the car in 1st and 2nd gear though. If you can afford it a 6 speed conversion will fix that but thats quite a bit of cash by the time you have paid for parts and labour.

I'm not too much of a off the lights guy. Just looking for little more power.

Superchips remap is reliable, yes gearbox is weak, just don't push first and second gear

I second that I done over 40,000 miles on a Superchip map. I tried to get them to do a stage 2 but it wasnt possible to leave my car with them for 2 weeks.
