I need to lower the subframe slightly to be able to put new anti roll bar bushes in - Which bolts so I need to take out?

Featured Replies

I tried unbolting the brackets holding the bushes in, this was without dropping the subframe.

I did actually manage to loosen 3 out of the 4 bolts but one of them is on the verge of being rounded off. I need to get a socket on the bolt in order to not damage it any more. I’m going to need to lower the subframe 1-2 inches to get access.

Do I, unbolt the 2 support bars at the back of the subframe and then move them to one side.
Then take out the 2 bolts either side above the wishbones & then the 2 bolts at either side of the subframe and then just lower it slightly with a jack?

Im hoping that I don’t need to remove any other components with me only lowering the subframe slightly?

look on youtube for the model of your car

its not a hard job to do but just check you have the correct tools before starting

Just watching a documentary on the restoration of Big Ben, I bet the same advice was given...

I’ll try and see what I can find! I have a jack, wood, impact gun, map torch?

I don’t know of anything else that I could need

Right you are! It’s not exactly fun being under a car when it’s icy is it!

Can you get it up high enough to get an impact gun under the subframe?  I always prefer a long breaker bar for that sort of job.

Oh, and I wouldn't be doing it outside in this weather...lost count of the number of bolts I've snapped in freezing conditions!  If the impact gun shears the top straight off a subframe bolt that wouldn't be ideal.

I was amazed by all those little pieces of glass on the clock face.  Had assumed it was just large sheets with decoration stuck on top!  Don't think I'd have the patience for that lol.

Tom, the whole project was just amazing! The way it was all dismantled, taken off site, and restored to such a high standard. At last, government money spent to really good use. The total amount of money probably equates to less than one single airplane of PPE that was tossed in the bin!

Yeah I believe I can get the height.
I’ll turn the rpm down on my impact gun to try and avoid shearing them off!
