Outside Temperature Sensor loom/cable

Featured Replies

Fiesta Mk6.5 back on the road after front end collision but outside temperature sensor is not working.

So, I bought a new sensor and this is plugged into its connector.

The wire from the connector wire trails back into a ribbed plastic tube/sheath of wires and seems complete but I can see another 3 core wire potruding from the tube which the mechanic cut off and taped over.

I believe this cut wire has something to do with the sensor not showing the outside temperature.

Can anyone please show me a diagram in relation to the cut wire.

Cannot help here - Haynes manual does not mention the exterior temperature sensor - temperature sensor is only a two core cable I think.

I agree its a two core cable and this was not ripped off in the collision and appears intact although it could have been tugged at. But everything else works on the car.

I just realised I should get an electrician to check the connector for continuity  because the sensor I replaced is new.

When I attach the sensor, the display reads 65 degrees then this dissapears quickly to display a series of dashes.

I will worry about the other wires later as it seems unrelated.

Are you sure that you have the correct sensor ?

That reaction seems to suggest that the wiring is intact but the sensor is out of range.

They don't seem to have 6M5T10K936AC anymore but Ford said 6M5T10K936AB would also work so this was fitted.

Finally found that the mechanic/electrician, had cut off power supply cables to the ambient temp sensor and taped everything up in black electrical tape.

I think the mechanic made the decision for me that I did not need a working ambient sensor.

I bought some car ramps recently so under the car i followed the ambient temp sensor wiring and found the wires i was looking for, tucked away out of sight.

I reconnected the wires and ambient temp sensor now working and showing correct outside temperature.
