Motion sensing key fob.

Featured Replies

Does anybody know how to distinguish this from the regular item, please. My car is from April 2019 so it will be on the cusp, I expect.  The p/n within my fob is:  J1BT-15K601-AB.

I think you will find it quicker just to test it than try to work it out.

Lock the car as normal and place the keyfob on the ground up to 1 metre away. Then sit and wait for 5 or 6 minutes. Then without moving the keyfob try and open the door. If it opens then the key didn't go to sleep.

It won't. My 2019 car was built in February 2018, scarcely six months after my 17 plated car! no GPF then, despite a registration date of April 2019.

I wonder why there was such a delay between build and registration, given that it's a nice spec and there were waits of 6-9 months for some versions back then. My March 18 reg car was also built February 2018.

Probably written off during delivery! Joking apart, lots of cars are registered on 31/12/18. Something to do with WLTP qualification and that might have glutted the market with cheapies. I am a little surprised that mine isn't a built to order as it has a couple of option packs as well as the pan roof, body shell and premium colour. Rubbing the scratches out has levelled the lacquer and I am minded to get the da polisher out as it has a good thick hard coat of lacquer and it has a very deep shine.

I wonder if it was a cancelled order; not to the desired spec perhaps, that then went back into the system?

Oddly, Swansea gives the date of manufacture as 2019 but the car is clearly an early 2018 build.

I suspect they just take it from the date of first registration. I came across this discussion some time ago:

I once paid for and took physical possession of one of my motorbikes but didn't get it registered until the following January. It showed as built the year of registration, though obviously it had been built the year before.

Thank you Eric, that makes sense. Woman Belong Me decided we needed to go out in the new car so I resigned myself to a shopathon. I tried out all the toys on the trip. Active cruise is a novelty I can't see myself using much but the parking assist delighted WBM who declared that if cars could do that, she would learn to drive.

She then emerged from the shop with a Jaeger overcoat in magnetic grey- in the sales, I was informed but as it was for me, I decided not to kick up a fuss!

The steering came right once I turned off the traction for a few miles. It is like having an LSD in the wet with the big wheels. Defeats the object, really. And to return to topic, the car doesn't recognise one of the key fobs. That, I am sure will be dealt with by Allen Ford when they call tomorrow.

The key fob came back to life following a battery change. It was opening on the buttons but the car would not detect it. Pulled the loose change out of the console, placed the key in the sweet spot and it allowed the car to start. It now works as it should. The tyre pressures report 100mb over what my gauge does but having checked the latter with a calibrator to national standards, the gauge is right so I shall be trying a pound more in the tyres. I doubt if it makes a big difference.
