I've read a thread on another car forum (non-Ford) about the Pluralisations of certain Car Names. The question of what the plural of the Ford Fucus was asked. I thought I'd ask it on here (as a Ford Forum) to see if we can find the definitive answer to the question. I suppose the same can also be applied to Auris, Yaris, Prius, Lexus etc.

I've (hopefully) added a poll to make things easier. 

Fucus is plural. Fucu and Fucmi are singular.

So I would expect that groups of cars would be the same sort of idea as groups of animals.

An Embarrassment of Qushqai

A Rusting of Fiats

A Retreat of Peugeot

A Shame of Lada

A Rattle of Land Rover

and of course...

A Pride of Focus 😀

It's a proper noun, starts with a capital letter, so technically it should be Focuses.

The one that always makes me cringe is Nissan Leafs.

The correct plural of focus is foci by the way. White light shone through a lens has multiple foci for different wavelengths so the red light component focusses at a different distance to the focus of blue light.

And no discussion would be complete without noticing the current dyslexia of Skodas,  mispronounciation of Hyundais and gridlock of Teslas.

A fleet of Fords aka pigs 😮 Yes i’m joking for those easily offended .😀

Good one, never understood why Skoda changed to the Sean Connery version of Sshhchoda, and the current advertising campaign telling us that after a couple of decades, Hyundai is actually pronounced, hoondye LOL

My Grandad always used to refer to his as a Hy-onda...  Some sort of Korean/Japanese mashup!

Giving it a capital letter must mean you've named your sheep, Sheep.  So if you've named multiple sheep, Sheep, and want to refer to them as a group, you can legitimately say Sheeps, having moved it from a standard noun to a proper noun!  

Isn't the English language great?!

it depends on if the driver is male or female. There's a 'Himdoo' and a Herdoo' 😀

 

Thai uses different words if spoken by a woman than those spoken by a man  but Herdoo is the work of a Scouse barber.

I understand that is the correct way of saying it. If you look closer there is an accent (Caron) above the S which makes it a 'sh' sound.  Škoda . There is also a theory that this might be what the v is in vRS.

Is it "Day-say-a" as James May says or Datch-ya? Plus of course then the long running debate over Porsh or Porsh-er. 

So, going back to the topic.  What is the plural of the Ford Focus?  2 Focus, 2 Focuses or 2 Foci?

The rules of the English language are vast and complex. In today's world of poor Grammar and even poorer spelling anyone could build a case for just about any variation of the plural of Focus.

Personally I'd just try always to phrase my sentence to avoid the need to use the plural. Thus not have those who feel they know better attempt to put their interpretation on the matter.

That said, the correct answer is Focuses, and anyone who thinks different is completely wrong 🤣🤣 

It is: two fords of the focus variety. That’s my way of avoiding the plural of focus. 

My greengrocer calls them Focus's.
