Diesel Breakdowns

Featured Replies

Our 58 registration Fiesta let us down rather badly on holiday recently with two breakdowns on French motorways, with a mist of diesel and smoke trailing behind us.

On both occasions we suffered a loss of diesel and subsequent fuel pressure which left us stranded on French motorways.

Both times we had the car recovered to a Ford dealership and both times the fault was traced to a faulty connector high pressure diesel pipe which is located underneath the airbox at the back of the engine bay (a different pipe both times)

Is this problem known to anyone here, or is it just us?

Will take a photo of one of the faulty pipes when I get the car back - It's still in France! :(

what engine? 1.4 or 1.6?

The mk6 engine had the same problem, with fuel leaking from the injector seals, but apparently ford have fixed it on the mk7 engines.

I have a 1.6tdci and never had any problems with fuel leaking or breakdowns

It is a 1.4 with 27,000 miles on the clock.

Well I'm hoping it doesn't recur as it was blooming expensive to get off a French Motorway - twice...

our 1.4 tdci has been fine

Never heard of this, when I had a mk6 tdci, there was a fault with the diesel return pipe splitting, the cars were recalled and fixed free by Ford.

Eoropean car breakdown cover isn't that expensive. You can even buy cover for specific trips rather than annual cover.

Also covers you for accidents etc and will also bring you and the come back to the UK, as well as any overnight accommodation etc required.
