Do I need to get the flywheel resurfaced for a 100k clutch change? Or will I be good?

Featured Replies

The clutch hasn’t actually gone. It’s the slave cylinder that keeps letting air into the system.

So is it possible that the flywheel won’t need resurfacing?

Flywheels aren't often resurfaced these days.  Usually they're replaced as the DMF gets worn & knocks.  If it's an SMF that should be fine as you say the clutch hasn't been slipping.

Yeah mines just a SMF. So it’s only really the metal on metal action of a fully worn clutch that damages the surface of the flywheel?

It's the heat generated by the friction of a slipping clutch that creates hotspots on the surface of the pressure plate, leaving it uneven.

Got you! There wasn’t any hotspots to be seen. Just a bit of surface rust.

I half arsed it with brake cleaner & 100 grit sandpaper
