Head Gasket

Featured Replies

My son bought a 2015 1.0 Ecoboost at auction and it broke down after a week. We've been told it's head gasket which means new engine. After looking through this forum it looks like cheapest option is Pumaspeed but I'm wondering if it's worthwhile doing.

The car has done 85k and before it broke the heater wasn't working. I don't know if that is related to head gasket? or if that's going to be another expensive fix. The Tyre Pressure monitor system also has a warning light saying “tyre sensors not detected check handbook”

There are a few scratches but other than that it drove well and went through MOT after he bought it with just an advisory on one tyre and minor exhaust leak in flexi section.

Don't want to through good money after bad and hoped to get some advice please.

Thanks

Phil

The heater relies on engine coolant.  Loss of coolant will prevent the heater working as well as blowing the headgasket.

Whether or not it's worth the repair depends on how much you can get for the car as it is, and how much you can get for it working...if the difference is less than the £4k you'll be putting into an engine replacement then tough decisions have to be made.

Top the coolant up, chop it in.

Engine will cost you thousands

So I assume that the TPMS was working at the time of the MOT and this fault is something that has occurred since ?

If you put in a new engine from PumaSpeed which will cost around £3000 fitted then that should in theory give you many tens of thousands of miles of trouble free motoring. However before going down the new engine route you need to check the turbo very carefully as these are very often damaged when engines have overheated and failed.

The expansion tank is full of sludge? assume I'd have to drain coolant and wouldn't the oil also now have signs of the head gasket failure?

He reset TPMS before MOT after setting tyre pressures as he thought it was due to low pressure in one of the tyres.

Thanks

Add k-seal for £15. Might work, might not, but worth a try perhaps?

Take the expansion tank off and clean it thoroughly.

Top the coolant back up and chop it in👍
