FF mk4 key problem

Featured Replies

good evening, I want to ask for your advice.  ford focus mk4 2.0l.  overnight the keyless opening stopped working.  when the battery was weak, the system turned on everything except the trunk and the driver's door.  but now nothing works at all.  I have to open the car via remote control.  even in the car, I have to put the key in the emergency position in order to start it, before it went normally.  the battery in the key is new.  well thank you

Your car battery State Of Charge (SOC) is at a critical level and the Body Control Module is turning off as much equipment as it possibly can to save battery power.

Put the car battery on charge with a 'Smart' battery charger for a minimum of 12 hours.

Make sure that the battery charger leads are connected with the positive direct to the battery terminal and the negative lead connected to the Chassis Earth point - NOT the battery terminal.

After a full 12 hour charge, take the car on a 15 minute drive and all systems should turn back on.

thanks, I'll try, only if the battery wasn't charged, at least the driver's door would work, wouldn't it?  I can't even open it by pulling the handle.  what went before.

No.

If your car has keyless entry on all 4 doors the system shuts off in two stages. Firstly it switches off the keyless function on both rear doors and the passenger door. Then if the battery condition continues to get worse the car will then turn off the system on the drivers door.

Please charge the battery for a full 12 hours. Make sure the negative charging lead is connected to the chassis earth point. After a full 12 hours charge take the car for a 15 minutes drive and normal service will be restored.

hello, so tried and no change.  unlocking and locking only via remote control and starting with the key in the emergency position.  the car says key not recognized.

Using a multimeter measure the car battery voltage. What value is it ?

Also your keyfob battery, what voltage is it please ?

hello, now I tried forscan and there is an error BdyCM DTC B1218 Remote transmitter identification.
it may be related

OK you need to do a reset. Disconnect the car battery negative lead and leave it off for 30 minutes. Reconnect and wait 10 minutes and then start the car. All modules should by then have rebooted.

so even disconnecting the battery didn't help.  wouldn't it help to encode the keys once more?

What make of battery did you put in the fob?

I guess if the remote opened the door the key battery can't be completely dead?, but worth checking as I've had all sorts of weird behaviour with dodgy key fob batteries.

So checking the battery is still good (3.3v) and correctly inserted is worth a look, also (if it's a Duracell), ensuring that the residue from the warning sticker is thoroughly removed.

I think the OP is having issues with the keyless entry not working as far as I understand.

Ditto. It's not that clear, but I took It that it won't open keylessly, but will by pressing the button on the remote?

When I've seen "Key not recognised", though, the doors wouldn't open remotely either and had to gain entry using the spare fob (if working) or the emergency blade (if not).

just for clarification.  I open and close the car and open the trunk with the remote control.  keyless opening is not possible.  that is, when he pulls the handle, the car does not open, and it also does not lock when I grab the handle.  when I sit in the car and go to start with the key in my pocket, the car says: KEY UNRECOGNIZED.  I have to put him in the emergency position.  new VARTA flashlight in the key.

Sounds like the keyless transmitter has lost sync with the car.  I think that's a completely separate code from the remote locking?

(PS - FF can also mean Ford Fiesta so best to just write Focus in full.)

Thank you for the clarification of the problem. This sounds like the RKM is not for some reason detecting the presence of the keyfob near the car, or when it is inside the car.

To check if the key detection has a fault you need to use a laptop and download the software FORScan. connect to the car using the vLinker FS cable.

Check for any DTC's and use FORScan to clear/reset the codes.

FORScan: https://forscan.org/download.html

vLinker FS: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-vLinker-Adapter-FORScan-MS-CAN/dp/B0952P4MLP/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2CPA2CK7E4JOI&keywords=vlinker+fs&qid=1673874817&sprefix=vlinker+fs%2Caps%2C209&sr=8-5

Just had a thought !!! (not something that happens too often 🤣)

Have you checked that Keyless Entry is still enabled in the IPC settings ?

Keyless start isn't working either.  He has to put the fob against the emergency pick-up.

Have you tried your 2nd key if you have one?  Just to rule out the fob.

greetings.  so I've tried just about everything.  yesterday I deleted all errors via forscan.  I managed to lock the car without a key, that is, by touching the handle, but only once.  after locking the car for the first time, the KEY UNRECOGNIZED voices again and the car behaves as before.  I also tried resetting the BMS and the same ones still lock and nothing more.  I tried both keys and they do the same thing.

Is the main battery good?

Sounds like a trip to Ford

Sorry to dig up the past, I am experiencing the same symptoms. Did you ever find a resolution?

Thanks

Steve
