Engine Won't Start

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I recently bought a 2014 Ford Fiesta ecoboost 1.0 (Mk 7) with engine failure. Due to the severity of the issues, the engine was replaced with a 2016 1.0 ecoboost (also Mk 7) engine. We tried to start the car but it wouldn't start so we replaced the throttle housing and the fuel lines with the ones from the original 2014 engine.

Unfortunately, the car still won't start. It turns over but it will not run. Moreover, looking with an OBD reader, a single error code appears -- even after deleting and trying again. The error code is "P053F:21-6C CMDTC's Cold start fuel pressure performance (bank 1)".

If anyone has any idea what could be causing the issues, your help would be very much appreciated!

Are you using a generic code scanner or FORScan ?

Hi Unofix,

Thank you for the response. We are using a generic (Autel) OBD reader with the EU Ford data installed.

Hi Lucas, you really need to use a Ford specific software like FORScan to be sure that you are seeing all of the DTC's on both the HS and MS canbus.

I'd recommend you download FORScan (free for laptops) and use the vLinker FS cable (about £29).

Other than the actual main engine did you use all the other parts from the original ?

I seem to remember someone on here a little while ago having the same code after engine removal of an ecoboost and it turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor.

Also worth checking if there is a fuel cut off button reset anywhere incase its been knocked.

Hi,

Sorry for the late response, I checked the crankshaft position sensor and, indeed James, you are correct that that was the issue. The sensor works fine but the pulley was misaligned so the sensor was telling the injectors to inject the fuel at the wrong time, hence the low fuel pressure. It has now been properly aligned and the error code has now gone.

Unfortunately, the car still won't start but the problem is definitely different this time. Previously, the engine would continue to crank and it simply wouldn't run by itself but, now, the engine stops cranking after about 3 seconds. The OBD reader also doesn't show any error codes. I think I must have damaged the starter motor somehow during the realignment process so I'll have a look at that.

Thank you very much for your help so far and any advice on what the new issue could be would be very much appreciated!

Try clearing all codes, even though non are displayed, then leave the vehicle battery disconnected for an hour, then try again ( preferably with a jump pack on aswell)
