replaced clutch by myself, but car won't start anymore

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Last week I replaced the clutch on my ford fiesta, but now it won't start anymore. The problems are as follows:

when turning the key to "on" you can hear everything switch on properly, lights go on, radio on, etc. Only the actual starting of the engine itself does not happen, and only the oil light indicator on the dashboard goes off. Turning the key back to "on" will turn the oil light back on. So it looks like something electrical somewhere that is not right...

I also swapped the relays, but I don't hear anything switching.

I connected my ELM327 to see what's wrong and I get 3 error messages:

P0123 throttle position switch high input

P0222 throttle position low input

E3E82 raw code 7E82.

I think the first two notifications are ghost notifications that are not important, but the third one (E3E82) has no further description.

it is a ford fiesta 1.25 from late 2003.

Does anyone have advice? Thank you in advance!

I suspect that when you went to the clutch, you took off the electric starter.  check the electrical connections to the electric starter, maybe you missed something there.

That is my guess. Solenoid wire most likely.

thanks guys for the reply!

I checked the cables, unfortunately this is not the problem because they were good. Is there a chance that a fuse has blown?

Just a thought, is there an earth strap from the engine/transmission to the chassis. Cars I have encountered have earth cables usually from bell housing bolts to chassis.

I recall someone telling me the oil light times out but unsure if it’s true.

There is a chance that a fuse has blown. There is a chance that it has been attacked by the little green men of planet Zog. Guesswork won't work so if you are out of your depth and you cannot find out where you have made the mistake, you will need to have another set of eyes on your work.

Green man from planet Zog - On back order. Recommend Mystic Meg as an alternative 🤣

Not so. They carry out false flag attacks on electrical systems to blame it on their enemies, the Gremlin.
