So does your 'pre 1960' Ford have one of those fancy heated windscreens then?

No, my old one does.

TBF, it's the only decent thing they've ever come up with

The model T, the DFV, the GT40. First to standardise ABS iirc as well. And then the Ecoboost which for all its detractors produces 140 bhp/ litre for 100,000 miles on four oil changes and six sparking plugs.

What did the Romans ever do for us?

Quick clear windscreen is why I have a Ford , I probably wouldn’t have bought a Ford if no makes had it or all makes had it. I think Ford never really advertised the benefits as much as they could have done . So many people I have spoken to over the years are unaware of this marvellous feature.

My 1990 RS Turbo had it, I loved it at the time and still miss not having it, surprising that so many think it's a 'new' feature!

My First Ka was a base model with aircon £7250 in September 1999.

The one I paid £5858 for in March 2008 had ABS, CD, Duratec, spoilers, alloys RCCL and Quickclear. I have missed it on other cars since.

I use a cover for my 2012 Fiesta on a night time if I can be bothered, but it doesn't cover fully the back windscreen. I keep forgetting to put the wiper up so the cover can reach.

It's on usually when it's not needed and forget / can't be bothered when I do need it.

If I'm out, it takes me ages for the screen to clear even with deicer and a scraper.

Had exactly this conversation with a friend 2 days ago when I was admiring his Qahqai.  (His wife has  Fiesta with a QC windscreen).

And to be fair to Ford, one of the reasons I bought a 2nd hand Granada in 1990 was that they all had ABS as standard, which was very unusual.

I had a 1987 Granada Ghia auto - that was a great car!

I had a couple of horrible Fords (I shudder at the memory of the 17m Taunus,) but was completely charmed by the Ka when I went into my local dealer to take a look at Ford's new baby. I bought two new ones nine years apart. I didn't keep them until they got old but they worked well and hard. The first one was unreasonably fast.

I had been told that it wasn't to have more than ten miles on the clock when collected. I was to disconnect the battery and thrash it all the way home. Apparently, the Rally Kas had to have standard ECUs but a second map was written into the standard box which was fused in  after ten miles use dependent upon driving style. The information came from a good source although I don't know if it was true, but my one went very well, albeit thirstily.
