Ford Fiesta 1.4TDCI not turning over

Featured Replies

My 1.4TDCI was turning over very slowly, and gave the impression that the battery was flat. The battery was on its way out anyway, so I replaced it. The situation did not improve, and still will not turn over. I replaced the starter motor, what a pig of a job that was, but still has not solved the problem. It was clearly not the starter motor! I have run out of ideas. I very much welcome your views on what to try next.

Have you tried turning the engine by hand to make sure it still turns freely?  Might have a bent conrod making it tight?

Thick battery cables are the next try if it turns easily.  Not a simple continuity check, need a heavy load check.

You maybe right about conrod, or another engine issue. Just tried again, it appears to be be the same as starting the car in gear with the handbrake on, when you forget it is in gear. Very expensive to repair......
