New/second key fob problems

Featured Replies

Hi,

New to the forum, so thank you for reading.

So, 2009 Fiesta Titanium Diesel, only came with a single key which was very shabby etc, so I decided to buy a new case from eBay to smarten it up.

I transferred the old key fob contents and metal key part in to the new fob. All central locking and doors operated great, but the key wouldn’t start the engine, the immobiliser was on (fast flashing red LED).

I tried to ‘program’ the key using some guides on google to no avail… Swapped everything back to the original key and hey presto, works fine.

Questions are, 1. What’s in the original key that’s not in the new one? (Some kind of NFC or similar?) 2. How can I get the new key to work (without a huge Ford bill)?

Thanks all.

Si

You didn't transfer the Transponder chip.

This is a coded passive device that is usually about 7mm long and 4 mm wide (other versions do exist). They are not powered by a battery of any kind and look like a little block of black/grey plastic.

You need to remove this from your old keyfob and put it in the new case. If you post photos of the inside of your old keyfob than it maybe possible to show you where the transponder chip is.
