I knew it!

Despite two mismatched tyres on the front, (The garage rang to tell me that they were too busy to fit the new ones and must have been as they were also too busy to apologise,) changing the wheels from 205/45/17 to 195/50/16 has transformed the handling as well as the comfort. The Yokohamas on the back are Blue Earth GT AE51 which are about £105 a corner and  have restored the smoothness and balance to the Fiesta chassis as I expected. I don't expect the Carlos Fandangos will be hard to shift either.

So far, the TPMS is not sulking but I need to adjust the circumference with Forscan tomorrow after a run out. I expect the TPMS to either autocorrect itself or throw errors but the system is reading its usual 2 or 3 pounds higher than normal on the revised pressures so I reckon it might be all right without my intervention. Overall then, very happy. If Woman Belong Me  notices the improved comfort, I shall be perfectly content.

Good news - but please weigh both the 16s and the 17s so we actually know what the weight difference is.  It will help some people out there for sure!

Yes I know the tyres are not the 'same' manufacturer, but it is all useful data.

Thanks!

PS what tyres are on the 17s?

You want me to take the wheels off again and weigh them? Don't be ridiculous.

As you are clearly a petrolhead who takes things such as 'weight' seriously, I'm surprised you didn't weigh them anyway 😄

Don't worry - I'll weigh mine, but I'm in the middle of an oil-change (or two) so I'll do it in the next day or so.

I didn't need to know it. Information without any value. The sixteens are lighter and they are to be fitted anyway. The majority ofthe gyroscopic effects will be more pronounced with the increased mass of the seventeens but the numbers are unimportant because if you want the best driving experience in terms of stick, stop and steer, the sixteens provide it and what is more, comfortably!

NB.The seventeens are sold as a Style Pack, not a handling pack. Their effect upon the vehicle dynamics is secondary to the perceived cachet of big wheels. I would rather that the car worked as well as it could.

By the way, the TPMS went into error mode after about ten miles and needed the sensors training which was done with a small transmitter from Ebay.

😉 I don't know where to start with all of that.... so I won't.  Enjoy your 16s 👍
