Late 2017 Mk 8 Fiesta., Boot light

Featured Replies

Hi

Have the above car and the boot light has failed.

The lamp itself is fine, so I suspect its the activating switch for when you open the boot.

Trouble is, I cant seem to find it!!

Anyone know where the thing is hiding?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the switch is part of the latch mechanism.

Hi

Thanks

I think you are right.

Such a bad move though. Used to be a cheap plastic switch that rarely broke and was easy to replace.

Now a hulking great latch thats not so cheap or as easy to replace. Progress eh !!!

Thanks again

The switch is built in to the latch and feeds a control signal to the Body Control Module (BCM) which then sends a supply to the boot light.

The same switch is used by the BCM to detect when the boot is open for the locking circuit, also used for the Alarm system, and used to show the boot open warning light on the instrument panel.

Is the boot open warning light, working on the instrument panel? If the answer is No then the switch is probably faulty. If the answer is Yes the fault is most likely water ingress in to the BCM and corrosion of the connector pins.

Hi

Thats great, thanks for the info.

Like I said, bring back the two quid switch rather than a bcm !!! lol

Can you tell me where I find the module?

Thanks

I just checked and the "liftgate open" sign comes up on the dash.

So, I guess im looking for the BCM.

Thanks

The Body Control Module (BCM) is part of the passenger compartment Fuse Box.

DISCONNECT the negative battery lead before investigating.

Remove all connectors from the BCM / Fuse Box and check carefully for signs of water ingress/corrosion of any pins on the BCM and the plugs themselves. Pay special attention to the green plug, if that one is wet/corroded then you have the infamous problem of the faulty screen wash pump.

Hi

Thanks again

Ill investigate in the next few days

Really appreciate your help

Rob

Just because the bulb is good, it doesn't necessarily mean that the light fitting is. Check the voltage across the two terninals, with the bulb installed and just to rule out the blindingly obvious, try it with the lights on as though it is at night.
