1.6 T 180bhp Ecoboost Coolant Redesign

Featured Replies

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone knew which year Ford redesigned the engine to stop the potential coolant leaking issue.

I know they did a recall to add a temperature sensor but I'm not sure which year they actually fixed the potential issue.

Thanks for any help, Dean

They didn't fix it.  Just brought out the 1.5 EcoBoost instead.

If you’re looking to buy one, the cars that had the recall were upto 64 plates so a 15 plate onwards should be ok, the engine codes changed for later cars.

That was on the Focus Mk 3.5 though. I assume Dean is referring to the 1.6 in the Fiesta ST here?

I am refering to the fiesta st.  Although it would be more sensible getting the focus tbh so that could be a option!

And thanks for the replies 🙂 so 15 plates onwards had different engine codes?

Or then again, perhaps not. The 1.5 4 cylinder also has the odd problem:

Thanks for the info it's really appreciated! To be fair I am actively trying to buy a MK7 1.6 Fiesta Zetec S but just getting frustrated by people not getting back to me so exploring alternatives

Yes, I've looked in on your other thread. On alternatives, there seem to be about as many 1.6 Titaniums as Zetec S on AutoTrader, if you don't mind slightly less sporty looks. Also some Metal and S1600 versions around - the Metal and S1600 (second run - the first just had cosmetic changes) have 134bhp.

Looking at STs will open up more recent and certainly more expensive cars, but is quite a step up in performance. (Or is that the cunning plan to fool your partner - "Sorry, I tried really hard to get a slower car but just couldn't find one and had to make do with this ST instead"!😀)

Lmao! I would love a ST but she's already not happy I'm looking at a 3 Door Zetec S, never mind a expensive 3 Door ST 😛

I've seen some Metals around, was curious of the difference!  Was it 2011 the second run started?

Yes, second run of S1600 was 2011, Metal ran as part of the normal range from early 2012 until the facelift iirc.

Thanks I appreciate all your help! Anyone have a opinion on the euro 4 Vs euro 5 ones? Is it future proofing for ULEZ or just over thinking

Probably the latter!😀

Pretty thorough guide to EU Standards here:

https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/emissions/euro-emissions-standards/

Bearing in mind the earliest Euro 5 cars are already 12 years old or more, I guess it depends how much future you think an older car has got left!

Yes it is.

They're obviously determined to eliminate private cars from anywhere within a 200 mile radius of a city, public transport is on strike/non-existent/not built yet (e.g. HS2), but we can safeguard our future mobility by keeping up our personal fitness and stocking up on stout walking shoes before they are also found to be unfriendly to the environment.😀

Walking increases your CO2 output.

Having driven all the cars off the road they will have to bring in a 'shoe tax' to cover the reduction in tax revenue  🤣 which of course will be used for everything other than footpath maintenance 🤔
