Mk8 3 door airbag light

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a mk8 fiesta 3 doors. My airbag light came on yesterday morning when I started the car, the day before I had carried passengers in the back and think a connector has come loose under the passenger seat or drivers.. as this has happened before but was under warranty then and ford just did it with no paper work nor did they tell me exactly what was wrong. But I’m assuming it’s a bad design in the mk8 as the seats are rubbish at pulling forward and backwards you have to really tug at them some times.

So, (I’ll stop rambling now!) my questions are:-

is there a connector under both front seats?
If i find the loose connector can I just plug it back in with the car off or do I need to unplug the battery?
If I plug the connector back in will the light go off after a systems check or does it need resetting using forscan?

thanks for any help.

Yes. One on each side for the seat belt pretensioner

In theory you can just plug it straight back in. Of course for added safety you can disconnect the negative cable from the battery but not really necessary.

The light should just go out and normal service will be restored. However, the DTC will still be stored and should really be reset using FORScan to avoid any possible confusion if for any reason someone was to check for DTC's in the future.

Had this intermittent  problem  with my mk8 fiesta, as it was still under warranty at the time I took it back to the dealer. They originally thought it was a loose connection. On 2nd visit with same problem they said it needed a new wiring loom under drivers seat and I think it continues under the centre console.
