Automatic gearbox and hand brake

Hi All

Please bear with me. My new Fiesta is the first automatic I have owned in sixty years of motoring. After reading various articles on driving automatics a number of quotes say that at extended periods of being stationary, ie. traffic lghts, in 'Drive' it is advisable to apply the hand brake. If I do do this the hand brake ON chimes sounds even though the car is stationary and the instruction manual states the hand brake ON chime should not activate until the vehicle is traveling at over 3 MPH. Does this happen to all you atomatic owners out there or is there a problem with my car. No doubt I could get round it by cancelling the chines function, haven't tried that yet, but not something I fancy doing.
