engine oil

Featured Replies

is it just me or is engine oil gone up a canny bit from last year

Everything has gone up from last year.

When it comes to oil you have to shop around and very often you find the cheapest is the Ford online shops.

For example: https://www.arnoldclarkautoparts.com/collections/oil

I'm impressed Tom, that is indeed very good value!

Prices/offers can change frequently. Recently I wanted 4 litres of castrol magnetec for my wife’s mazda2.   The best price I could find was 4x 1 litre bottles from tescos because they had club card offer on the 1 litre bottles.  A few years ago I bought 4 x 1 litre bottles at Asda as that was cheapest. Don’t just look at 4 litre / 1 gallon / 5 litre as sometimes the 1 litres do work out cheaper (stupidly) . Oil does seem to have gone up in recent years above general inflation , as with antifreeze , at least that’s how it looks to me.

Don’t forget some branded oil is fake.

About 20 years ago I had a 1984 fiesta that I drove 1400 miles per month in. It used a gallon of oil per month (not a leak, it was burning it although was not excessively Smokey although there was some) . I would buy a gallon in Asda which was £4.99 .    I think the cheapest gallon (4.54litres) is a lot more than 4.99 with inflation added would be. Bank of England inflation calculator website shows it to be less than 9 quid.
