camera alert

have i got a speed camera audible alert on my 70 reg fiesta ? cannot find it anywhere !

It  should be in the navigation menus, this has come up a few times as you might expect it to be elsewhere. This is from an Edge thread but the principle is the same:

On 10/6/2019 at 7:53 PM, Edge of Reason said:

When in Navigation, select MENU / NAVIGATION SETTINGS / NAVIGATION PREFERENCES and you’ll see Hazard Spot Warning. There is a pick list for OFF / VISUAL ONLY / VISUAL & CHIMES.

Off clearly gives no warning, visual only shows the warning sign ⚠️ on the map and visual & chimes shows the warning sign ⚠️ with the audible prompt.

The warning doesn't actually say "speed camera", just "hazard", possibly for legal reasons?

My one says "Caution", and it is only for fixed cameras that are in the map database.

Yes, I think mine does too on reflection. Only heard it on a few occasions in all the time I've had the car!

Mind you, my local force and the adjacent one don't use fixed cameras, only "safety camera" vans and hand held speed guns, so I only see fixed cameras when I venture further afield.

As John says, it's only as effective as the nav database, it's not a camera detector.

Yeah, you get a "caution" a good way before approaching a static speed camera (unless very newly placed) which is useful.

If you want advanced warning of roadside handheld radar traps etc, I am told the Road Angel products were/are the thing to have if you have a heavy foot. Quite pricey but apparently can save fines and points and are 100% legal, for the time being.

I run an Aguri GTX90 Speed Camera Alert, it is a new model and is brilliant

Add/Edit it is a lot cheaper than road angel and updates are all free, very easy to do on pc or laptop, no monthly charges etc

I'm not sure where the law stands on these detectors at the moment. I know they used to be legal to own but not legal to use back in the 1990's.

They still sell them I believe. Not sure how it can be legal to sell them but not legal to use them?? My friend has had and used on since the 90's and he said it had saved him a lot of grief many a time with his heavy foot. 😆

They are legal to own and use in the UK. This is not the situation in some other countries and in France in particular les flics will nail you just for having one in the car, whether in use or not.

Perfectly legal in the uk and that suits me. They are also a great driving "aid", keep you on your toes to drive correctly (speed wise) in a modern day car
