Key Fob Battery Issue

Featured Replies

Around October the dashboard displayed a message saying the key fob battery was low and need changing. I did this but was surprised as the vehicle was only 18 months old then. Last week the same thing happened so I changed it again. Now it's happened again today......is there some sort of reset required after a battery change? Other than the message, the fob is working perfectly well.

Any advice most welcome

Duracell 2032

Several threads on this issue if you have a search around, such as:

My originals lasted 3 years, replacement Duracells about 20 months, though one failed again almost immediately (dud or fake, I wonder?)

There are reports of counterfeit Duracells getting into legitimate supply chains.

Other points (though these would normally stop the fob working immediately):

- ensure the battery is the correct way up and free of fingermarks,  etc

- Duracells have a warning sticker which needs to be peeled off and can leave residue which needs to be thoroughly cleaned off.

BTW - is your other fob still ok?

Use either Energizer or Panasonic CR2032.

For about a year or more there have been many issues with counterfeit Duracell batteries even when bought from reputable supplies.

A brand new battery should measure 3.30volt and will start to give low battery warnings when it falls below 2.99volt

If after fitting a known good (tested with a meter) battery your car still displays the message that the keyfob battery is low, then you need to do the reset to clear the warning.

Many thanks......how do you reset?

Personally, I like a long hot soak in the bath, surrounded by candles, with some Barry Manilow playing in the background...
