Oil life

Featured Replies

Hi, my oil life indicator is showing 30%. Should I get the oil changed now?, it was last changed November 2021. Also, what grade of oil is it that can last 2 years, all my previous cars had an annual oil change. Thank you.

If you would like your 1.0 Ecoboost to live a long and happy life then it would be very wise to change the oil now, and in the future every 12 months regardless of service intervals/oil life.

Use ONLY oil to the exact specification WSS-M2C948-B  SAE 5W-20

never ever use any oil additives and never use an oil flush when changing the oil.

I'd certainly suggest sticking with an annual oil change.

The 5W-20 oil to specification WSS-M2C948-B is the same as was specified before Ford changed the service interval to 18,000 miles/2 years.

When I first got my Mk 8 I asked the service manager what changes had been made to the oil or engine specification to permit this and he confirmed "none". I have continued with annual oil changes, as have many other members on here.

(VW Group have 2 service regimes - annual and variable up to 2 years max, but for the latter (unlike Ford) a different - and very expensive - oil is used.)

Has the name changed on this oil to magnatec stop start?

I would rather buy the oil to take to a garage than trust them to use the correct grade ( caught a garage out before at this )

I don't know if the name has changed but so long as it is WSS-M2C948-B they can call it what ever they like, it will still be the exact same oil.

Looks like it. Here's the link to Castrol recommended oil for 1.0 Ecoboost:

https://www.castrol.com/en_gb/united-kingdom/home/car-engine-oil-and-fluids/motor-oil-and-fluids-finder.html?page=recommendedProducts&id=b235a2cd7d2ea158ad2a16a80ad093b1

As Unofix says, it's the spec number that's the vital thing.

Thanks everyone, 5 litres on order. Seems mad the difference in price (£10), at different places.

I use this stuff, £26 for 5ltrs if you buy 2 or more - Ebay.  Search Mannol WSS-M2C948-B

I use the VW stuff on my Skoda VRS, Its good oil.

Or for £3.98 more you can buy just 5 litres of the oil recommended by Ford. Whilst I don't don't the oil your using is of a suitable specification, if it was my engine I'd just feel happier using the Castrol oil

Thanks for all your help. I tried to find the filter but the ford parts site keeps coming up no parts found for this model?, and the arnold clarke site listed about 5 different ones ( diffetent specs sizes etc, ranging fro 8 quid to 26?)

Ah I fell into the trap of assuming it would be a better saving without checking because the Mannol V the VW longlife is a much bigger saving I just used it for the wife's Fiesta! Still, every little helps !!

🙂

I buy my oil from Opie and have done for years. If you search you can find discount codes for the site.

I've bought Millers oil with a Mahle oil filter. They do sell Castrol and other oils too.

You would need a 37% discount code for it to just match the same price as Arnold Clark Ford for 5 litres of Castrol oil.
