Fiesta Mk6 - Heater core issue?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm new here and looking for some advice please.

I have an 08 ford fiesta and for the last month or so I have had an issue with coolant constantly emptying out after a few days. There is no sign of a leak or anything anywhere visually outside or under the bonnet. However when i do top up the cooling and drive away after a short period I hear a water running sound inside the dash (passenger side) I've looked at a few articles online and they all seem to say it's the heater core leaking and would need to be replaced.

Does this sound right?

How do I go about getting to the heater core? I read i have to remove the dash but in another post i also read it can be done just by removing passenger side? Could not find any videos or posts online explaining this.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated 😄

Thanks

Jay

Water rushing noise is just because it hasn't been bled properly after topping up.

If the heater matrix is leaking, the carpet should be wet around it.

Thanks Tom,

Checked the carpet around the passenger side and no sign of wet carpet.

I did have a the overflow pipe replaced recently which runs from the coolant tank along side the engine because this had cracked and was leaking. Could this have caused an issue when topping back up after as since that was replaced I seem to be constantly topping up coolant.

Thanks

Yeah, there's probably still air in the system from when the pipe was replaced.

Fill up the coolant tank and then run the engine with the cap off for a while.  Keep the heater on 'hot' but with minimal fan speed.  That should help to bleed any air out of both the engine and the heater system.

If that doesn't help, then we'd have to look at other potential leaks.  The tank & cap would be my first checks.  Followed by the waterpump and thermostat housing.
