2000 Fiesta 1.3 Losing Water

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am new to the forum and hoping for some help. My other halfs fiesta 1.3 is losing water from the rear of the engine near the dipstick. (in fact where the hose/pipe enters the engine).

Having had chance to look over the car it is clear to see where the water is escaping the engine. Filled her back up can visibly see the water coming out, quick squeeze on one of the rad hoses and it pumps out. We recently had the thermostat and a valve in the scuttle panel changed as the heating wasnt working. I guess my first question is could these be linked and if so should I be going back to the same place to rectify the issue? Secondly does anyone have a picture of where the thermostat is located on the 1.3 engine?

Lastly I would be open to any suggestions as to the problem?

Many thanks

had a quick browse through the net and it seems that the thermostat housing is underneath the alternator...

the hose at the back of the engine should be the one that goes to the water pump assy if memory serves ? might just be a blown gasket there.

now i thought that the heater assy was just a water valve assy controlled by wire from the heater switch inside the car.open causes hot water to flow through the heater matrix and closed means no water so coldish air.air is blown through the heater matrix into the car from an electric blower asssy inside the car.

i remember YEARS ago when i had a mark one escort  the thermostat was on the top of the engine block to the right hand side. easy peasy to change it.

follow the big pipe from the top of the radiator and it should lead you to the housing...maybe... ;)

Hi Jon Boy 01

Any updates

Make sure a new thermostat is fitted whilst the housing is off.

And while your there flush the system including the rad and fill with the correct ford recomended antifreeze and coolant do not skimp on quality.
