EcoBoost = EcoBoom?

Featured Replies

Took my car into a local independant garage to book an oil change, and when he asked what car it was he said" We call them Ecoboom"!...

Something I dont know about this model?

Just search this forum for 'Ecoboom' or '1.0 Ecoboost' or 'Wet cambelts'

They got that nickname from the timing belt which is a ‘wet belt’ setup.Oil changes are of paramount importance with this little engines, on time @ a minimum once a year or twice a year. If the belt goes, it’s good by engine.Correct grade of oil is of utmost importance, as long as it meets OR exceeds the Ford specs.Brand is irrelevant.I change mine @ a minimum once a year regardless whether it has only done a couple of thousand kms.Time based service in other words, whichever comes first, mileage OR time.

I thought they got the nickname from the degas/cooling/overheatin issue causing them to go... well, boom

I thought they got the nickname from early remappers pushing them too hard and popping them.

Wetbelt failing is more a clatter than a boom...

See the Ford Ecoboom pages on Facebook.

I have a September 2021 Ford Fiesta Trend with just 3,600 miles on the clock and plan to get rid of it in two years' time. I've even thought of seeing if I can swap it for one the last standard Fiestas.

Or a recent mHEV which have dispensed with the wet belt and have cam chains?

TBH I don't really need something very sporty. I wasn't impressed with the acceleration of a basic Fiesta but was mindful of one particular stretch of main road that I join quite often from side turnings. It is very straight and has a 50mph limit, often ignored, and over the years I've been in the habit of flooring the accelerator as soon as I'm on it - ever watchful that a car coming from the other direction might be overtaking and be on my side of the road.
