Battery light

Featured Replies

Hi, can anyone help please.
i have a 2007 fiesta st150.

I changed the alternator and battery as the alternator was fluctuating power and blowing front lights.

everything seems ok but the front windscreen demister stoos working when the battery light comes on. I’ve cleaned up the earth wires. I can’t work out why the battery light stays on and won’t go off? Do I have to reset it? Cheers

The battery light is coming on because the alternator is not producing enough power to supply the heated screen.

There are a few possible reasons:

(a) Replacement alternator is faulty or wrong size

(b) Free-wheeling alternator pulley (if fitted) is slipping

(c) Alternator drive belt is loose and is slipping

(d) Poor earth bond strap between engine and vehicle body

(e) Main cable between alternator and battery is corroded or damaged

(f) The charge control plug on the alternator is corroded or damaged

I'm sure there could be other things but they are just a few things that need to be checked or tested.
