Parts list for replacing timing belts 1.8 TDCi focus MK2.5

Featured Replies

Hello.

Could you post list of parts which have to be replaced by mechanic during the replacement of timing belts (wet and dry). The car is Ford Focus MK2 (after face lifting - no chain). Year 2010. Engine kkda 1.8 TDCi.

Not sure why you didn't post this in the focus-specific sub-forum...

I'm basing this on petrol models, not having diesel specific instructions to hand. It's possible that the list for diesel models may be slightly different. I'm sure someone else will come along and correct this if so.

I'm assuming here that you're right about it being belt driven rather than chain. (The 1.8 petrol Mk2.5 is chain driven). If it's actually chain driven then a new oil seal and gasket sealant will also be required.

Most of this you can get in a timing kit. Some kits include a new water pump.

  • The belt itself
  • The belt tensioner
  • The crankshaft pulley bolt
  • The camshaft pulley bolts, if loosened
  • Some mechanics may just cut the auxiliary belts off and refit new ones
  • If the intake manifold and throttle body are removed for easier access to the starter motor, then ideally the gaskets might be replaced, but not strictly necessary
  • It's advisable to replace the nyloc nuts on the engine mount that gets removed (very cheap, not included in timing kits)
  • Potentially a new head cover gasket
  • Anything that gets broken during the procedure, if not repairable 😂

It's generally advisable to replace the water pump at the same time since you have to do all of the same work to get to it. If doing this then you'll also need a new pump obviously, and also a small quantity of coolant to replace what comes out when the old pump is removed (you can try to capture and reuse it, but I've tried this before and failed to capture it all).

Note that if you're planning to have a garage do it, they don't always accept customer supplied parts.
