Focus alternator

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I require a new alternator for a 59 plate TDCi Focus and have been quoted  £500 to £600.

The mechanic has said that the alternator is a smart alternator hence why it is expensive.

Would this car have a smart alternator fitted? I have done some research and it seems that they were only fitted on Euro 5 or newer?

Thanks

The Mk2 Focus does have SmartCharge fitted.

Not to be confused with variable charging on later models.

£5-600 seems excessive though.  You could try a used one instead.

Thanks for the info TomFocus much appreciated

A fully professionally refurbished alternator for your car is around £150. Most come with a 6 months warranty and some even have a full 12 months.

I fitted a refurbished smart alternator over 2 years ago to my daughters 2010 Kuga 2.0 TDCi which I expect is very similar to what you need. We paid £120 inc VAT, not including fitting which I did myself.
