Multiple error codes

Featured Replies

I own and have done since March 2016 a 62 plate 1600 automatic Focus Estate, it’s never failed, coughed or given me any hassle!

Recently, I got a warning that there was a transition malfunction : Service now.

The following day, High engine temperature: stop  codes:

TCM P0606

PCM P0271

PCM P111A

PAM U0101

PAM U 0402

BCM U0131

then the laptop battery died!

On the way to a garage, (where a total of 23 codes showed up), the car died, but restarted and continued. On the way, it doesn’t want to change up, then when it does, it’ll change down without warning?

Any suggestions?

Trevor

I would suggest the most likely problem is damaged or corroded wiring around the connector of the TCM, which is a common problem.

The codes that begin ‘U……’ are communication problems with the various other modules on the Canbus. Don’t be to concerned about them.

I’m the mk2.5, multiple error codes can be caused by a break in the can-bus connection. ( in the cluster or at the BCM/fuse box plugs). It doesn’t necessarily mean hardware (modules) have failed.

I assume yours is a mk3 so may be different.

So how do I rectify this please?

Disconnect the negative lead from the car battery before beginning.

Unplug the two connectors from the TCM which is mounted on the end of the gearbox. It may be easier to remove the nearside front wheel to help with access via the wheel arch. In the engine bay remove the air box assembly and it should now be possible to reach and remove the connectors.

Pull the cables out as much as possible and carefully inspect the harness for signs of damage or corrosion. next remove the plastic back shells of the connectors and check inside for broken wires. Inspect the pins of the plug for signs of corrosion.

If wires are found damaged or corroded they will have to be repaired and re insulated. It will also be probable that you will need to use FORScan to reset the gearbox adaptive learning and also reteach the drum positions.
