Fiesta 60 plate MK6 boot seal issue...

Featured Replies

Dear Fiesta Owners,

I've got a leak in my boot - my boot seals look absolutely fine, however, I've noticed that on the top of the boot/hatchback behind the pistons there is what looks like the remains of small seals on either side that would have met the main ones.

After much looking round the internet I've failed to be able to find how it should look, or anywhere that sells small seals that look like they could be the right part.

If anyone knows a) what it should look like and b) where I can get the little seals (if that's what should be there) I'd be incredibly grateful.

Thanks for any help you can offer,

Rachel.

There are grommets and captured inserts for screws that could allow wind driven water to enter the cabin. A few dabs of silicone caulk or a fresh piece of industrial grade duct tape might be all that is required to remedy the problem.

my Fiesta is a mk7. But water leaks have become an issue in the last couple of years. The spare tire well has become a cistern more frequently than most of us are wanting.
i will try to upload a couple of pictures. But due to ice storms we have weak internet connection and many power outages in our area.image.thumb.jpg.6ac4905313be5e09c116db84242e185f.jpg

Thanks Scottman I'll take a look at that, could be another cause to sort! I know water is getting in further up too as can see it on the seal. Does your hatchback lid have small seals at the top like in my pic at all? Trying to find out if mine have perished and what I need to replace them with.

2010 (60 plate) Fiesta is known as Mk7 in the UK.

I think what you're looking at there is just the underside of the spoiler, it's made in 2 parts.  They did originally have a thin adhesive foam seal along the flat edge, as shown here.  There were no more seals in that area as far as I'm aware.

This was what was causing water to get into the boot of my MK7 - it may be your issue as well.

Having just passed it’s tenth year, my Fiesta is holding up very well overall. But I can anticipate that there are several grommets and tape seals that are starting to shrink with age.

since I picked it up from the dealership in July 2010 I have taken a lot of proactive measures to keep it well maintained. Especially since I had done autocross events for the first two years of owning it. It’s been totally trouble free. I have had no water intrusion into the hatch itself and the small plugs that provide access to the retaining nuts for the rear spoiler are still in place.

Ah right, thanks Tom - whoever had it before my folks must have taken the spoiler off as it didn't have one when it got to them. Mystery solved, well, that one anyway!

Brilliant, thanks Jon I'll take a look at that. Lots to check out this coming weekend - hopefully I'll get it sorted 🙂

They all have a spoiler as standard.

Just to add a couple of photos so you can see the whole area.....

1st photo the area ringed is under the rear hatch - there's a body seam... I sealed this first but it made no difference to the leak.

2nd photo - ringed area is where my water was leaking in.
