Ford s-max 2019 ecoboost engine misfiring.

Featured Replies

Wondering if anyone has had issues with the Ford s-max 1.5 ecoboost engine.
We’ve been told we need a new engine in Our 19 plate , 29k miles , misfiring on cylinder 2

Yes there are many on this forum who have problems with the 1.5 Ecoboost. A number of them have a lot less mileage than yours.

The thickness between the cylinder wall and the cooling channels is very small. A leak between the cooling system and the cylinder will cause a misfire, and in some engines the actual cylinder liner will crack.

There are many cases of failed 1.0 Ecoboost engines but these are generally caused by the cambelt disintegrating and either snapping or clogging up the oil pump, which is not likely to be the case with your engine.

hello thanks for the reply ive had a look at some of the posts but most of them are reffering to the older models im led to beleve that my engine was the upgraded one that doesnt have that issue the main issue we have is low compression on cylinder 2 we have no loss of coolant or other liquid its with fords at the moment but want to charge a arm and leg we looking to get ford to to financially help as a gesture of good will given the age and milage of the car. We are hoping to hear from some of the people affected, to gather some evidence to present to Ford has anyone else done this before and got help from ford  As it stands they are being quite obstructive , and telling us to expect to pay around 10k.
The warrantee has expired

You might want to consider a claim under the Consumer Rights Act. The car has not lasted a reasonable amount of time and you can claim up to 6 years after purchase.

Sadly Ford very rarely give any sort of assistance. In the very few cases that they do the cost is adjusted such that they will say that they will give you a 50% contribution. That does not mean they will pay half of a £10,000 bill. Cleverly they will pay half of the engine at cost to them, but you pay half of the retail. The same scam is worked on the labour rates and so you end up paying £8000

If a new engine is what is needed then I would recommend contacting PumaSpeed to see if they are able to offer an engine (and fit if needed) at a much lower cost.

This is something we have looked into briefly, and are definitely considering if Ford do not make an attempt to assist us. Customer relations are involved and are saying they will “ potentially reimburse us” the cost of head removal as-well as “ contributing” towards costs of works. Obviously as a large family with a disabled child we are fairly desperate for the car, so are trying to figure out how on earth we can get this sorted in the best way possible.
