Fuel leak fiesta 1.5tdci 2015

Featured Replies

I have later type which has electric fuel pump in tank to get diesel up to the high pressure diesel pump . Fuel pipe from filter to high pressure pump is like this first pic.  There is a sensor clipped in - see 2nd pic. Assume it is pressure sensor . Fuel is dripping fast from around the sensor.  Can’t find this part on 7zap.  Can’t find any diagrams which show the later pipe arrangement with the sensor and the silver pulse smoothing thing. Found this problem tonight when dark. Does anyone know if I unclip the sensor will I find it has a standard o ring that I can change?  Car did 300 mile journey today, noticed smoke in headlights when parking , opened bonnet, stank of diesel, took the push on cover off top of engine, dripping diesel fast, like two drips per second.  Photos off internet.

Part number 1918296 - Europe, Fiesta CCN 2013-, 3 Powertrain, 30304 Powertrain.Fuel System - Engine, 3030405C Fuel Injectors And Pipes; 1.5L SOHC DI TC I4 DIESEL - Catcar.info

Sensor is not shown as a separate part so I don't know if there'll be a replaceable o-ring behind it.

Thanks for the info. Although in that parts list diagram it has the sensor in the pipe it does not have the silver metal pulse smoother in the diagram.    I have now solved it. Hope some of this info is of use to people in future should they suffer same problem.  Pic shows that the plastic housing has broken in three places so sensor had come partially out. The sensor has two o rings round it. I don’t know if they are standard sizes but the o rings weren’t the problem.  About 18 months ago the silver metal part on my car was oozing fuel . I fixed it with araldite. Then I bought a 2nd hand pipe with bits on it like in first pic on first post as I considered the araldite as a temporary repair. But I could not release the joint where pipe goes on high pressure pump as very tight space, no way you can get the usual type of fuel joint pliers in there. So I have had to make my own slimline tool out of some rod. See 2nd pic. So I have now managed to fit the replacement pipe I bought 18 months ago so I now have a pulse smoother with no araldite on and an unbroken sensor housing. This sensor housing looks like it’s designed better, thicker, than the old one so perhaps Ford found they were breaking . Hope this helps someone at a later date.

It seems crazy that if you want new part it’s £165 due to the plastic breaking. It seems unlikely to me that I’m the only one who is going to have this problem .

Unofix wondered if i would find a way to bodge it. Well, as mentioned above, I didn't. But so as not to disappoint I had a think about how to be innovative (aka bodge it). Although, I think my idea could serve well as a permanent repair for anyone who needed to do it if their's broke in same way. I am sure no one wants to spend £160 on a part if they don't really need to but it's not just about money. you might find this fuel leak on a sunday afternoon and need to use the car monday morning. this might help people reading this in future if all these parts start failing over time.

See first pic. this shows three points where mine broke. I think the spring clip puts a bit of unneccessary strain on the plastic part. the spring clip is causing pressure 24/7.  It doesn't really need to. see 2nd pic of sensor out of housing. see the two o rings (nice of ford to colour them so clearer in photo).  the sensor does not need to be pushed down under pressure 24/7. It just needs to be held in so that the low fuel pressure does not push the sensor out so far that the o rings are too far out of the housing.  3rd pic shows the innovative method of keep the sensor from being pushed out.  I have only done 2 screws, if i was using this part I would do 4. of course you need to get the holes just right.  and of course it needs shorter screws than I have used so they can be done up tight, I would have cut them down, but as i was just doing this to illustrate my idea (and I don't need to use this part) I didn't want to spend too much time on it. In the third pic, where i have marked the pic in red, this is part of the sensor, not the housing.    Hope this helps someone in future.

and more, earlier on I had mentioned that I had previously put araldite on my silver metal pulse damper. That leaked because it appeared to have a manufacturing defect where it had been crimped. my replacement one does not have the same visible defect. some of them i can see for sale 2nd hand do have the same visible defect. I have shown a picture here where the crimping is not even all of the way round.  pic is not good quality but you should be able to get idea of what I mean. taken from internet.   I can't show it on pic of my old one as all covered with araldite.  I know it doesn't look that serious a defect, but mine leaked and had the same kind of thing where the metal was rucked up

hello, did you end up getting another sensor complete with a new pipe?

Yes.

Yes.

is it easy to change, just unscrew the plugs and put the new pipe in? or is it something more complicated, do you have to prime it or use a tester?
