I hope not had the car 8 days entire rear panel is pushed in colour doesn’t show damage well and rear alloy is scratched full across

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's written off Cat N.  Rear quarter is a pain to repair.  And on a 14 year old car it won't be worth it.

Personally, I wouldn't tell the insurance.  Just get it checked over by a trusted garage and leave it as long as there's no structural or suspension damage.

Yes. Write off for sure. Your Insurance premium will be massively increased, probably beyond the value of the car if you are a youngster. Have it checked over and let it be part of the learning curve. The value of a fourteen year old car is in its usefulness. Don't give the insurers the chance to line their pockets because you want a perfect old car.

if they write it off buy it back for peanuts

Sorry to see this.

There are about 30 2009 Zetec S Fiestas on Auto Trader at the moment with asking prices from £995 (MOT failure) up to around £4500 - 5000 for an apparently immaculate very low mileage example. Not a huge amount of leeway for what could be a very expensive repair at insurance rates, but you won't know unless a professional has a look at it as Tom suggests.

If the insurance co. does write it off, I think you can often buy the car back from them at the scrap value price, once they've given you the pre-accident market value for it. Then get it repaired yourself.

Have you informed your insurance company ?  I really hope that you have not !!

Regardless of what the outcome of any insurance claim you will have that recorded on your insurance record for up to 5 years and it will all most certainly increase your premiums for a good number of years.

Do as Tom has suggested, check it over and sadly just learn to live with it.

Get a quote for the repair - they'll do that for free. Then you will have better information to help you decide.

The decision will also depend on whether yours was a £1000 car or a £5000 car before the accident.

The great thing about confused.com is that you can do "what if" scenarios to see what would happen to your premium in different circumstances.

Unfortunately I’ve contacted insurance and it’s due to be collected for repair they said it won’t effect my no claims does that mean I won’t get the premium increase as it’s already 300 excess I’ve had to pay and I’ve spent my entire saving to buy this car I’m gutted

Additional I already have to pay 170 per month insurance for this car

Your premium will go up at renewal time far more than the cost of the repair would have been.

I can 100% guarantee that your premiums will increase next time you renew your insurance. NCD means very little in real life. It is a percentage discount off a made up price that they will never explain how it was calculated.

It would be nice if you could come back to the forum after you next renew your insurance and be able to tell me I was wrong.

If they charge me more that 170 per month for insurance I can’t afford to run the car tbh so I really hope this doesn’t happen I saved for so long to buy it and my I have new driver premium atm.

never had insurance before so this is first dealings with first car and I asked so many times is the 300 the only extra cost I will get might sound stupid to most but I love the car and want it as nice as when I bought it even being 14 yrs old car it’s my first and I don’t wanna say it lasted 8 days

I fully understand, I loved my first car even though it was 90% rust and 10% steel 🤣 It was a 1968 (F, reg) Escort Mk1 with a clapped out 1100 engine, paid a whole £90 for it back in 1978 and it came with 12 months MOT and 6 months road tax. It was sad day when it had to go to the big scrapyard in the sky.

I wish you good luck and hope things turn out for the best 👍

drive it keep it as is, amass you NCD over the next few years, till you hit the reduction milestones

My first was an Austin 1100 van dem plas paid 28 quid from the auction taught me to drive and get my road sense passed my test in it then sold it for £20 back at the auctions, then got a Volvo 244dl.
