Slight Coolant Leak Advice Please....

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My Son has a 63 plate 1.0 Ecoboost Ford Fiesta and I've noticed every couple of weeks I have to top up the coolant expansion tank by 100ml or so. Temps seem to be fine and don't go above the 4 bars when he uses it and it . Today his car went in with a friend for 2 replacement track rod ends and a rack arm replacement. When I came home after the work had been completed I had a look at the parts that had been replaced and noticed a slight fluid leak from the bottom rear part of the engine. This turns out to be coolant. I check my Sons car weekly and have not noticed this before and the mechanic also didn't see this. The only thing I did when driving it home was turn the air con on and turned the temperature to the coldest for a couple of mins to run the aircon then turned it off again.  Anyone advice or feedback appreciated as to what this could possibly be. Could it be his thermostat that has now gone or is leaking 🤔

This has nothing to do with the state of the thermostat. You have a leak. Get it found and fixed.

Confirmation from mechanic it was the Thermostat housing/ gasket that was at fault. As he was replacing the the Thermostat housing and gasket also replaced the temp sensor and thermostat itself, coolant as well of course. Job done
