Which year was wet belt discontinued on 1.0 EcoBoost ?

both the engines looking like this. So chain?

but remember that the oil pump is still driven by a wet belt and has to be replaced at or before 10 years or 100,000miles and it is about the exact same amount of time and cost to do the work.

Any one convert a belt cam to the new chain cam ? im curious if a belt cam block can be rebuilt as a chain block buy ordering and swapping the parts. if one needed and was willing to do a rebuild, it would not be much additional effort to swap to chain.

additionally, i have not heard of anyone with snaped timing chains, just cloged pumps from belt residue. when i took mine apart i cleaned out the residue and disassembled and reassembled the oilpump. after inspecting the belt i saw no reason to question its integrity, so i keeped it in to see when or iff it will snap. now that all the laqer coating on it is no longer a threat and a new belt would just reintroduce the threat i see more risk in replacing.

Hi all, wondered if I could get an opinion on this. Apologies I know this is a Fiesta thread but think this is connected. A friend is looking at buying a 22 plate Ecosport ST-Line 998cc vehicle with 17.5k mileage and we've seen these issues with the wet belt and wondered if it is something to be concerned about before spending money buying the car, only to have an expensive job shortly after. Do they have a few years without needing to worry about this? Any advice appreciated? Cheers.

Hi Daryl,

Plenty on this in the Ecosport forum also.

Ford recommended change interval is 10 years maximum, most regard it as prudent to do it a couple of years earlier. Costs as you've probably seen are anywhere from £1000 or so at an independent up to £1800 plus at Ford dealers.

Annual oil changes with correct oil and no use of engine flush are absolutely crucial.

Edit: There are plenty of alternative small SUV/crossovers, several of which are mentioned in the review linked below. However, avoid PSA group (Citroen/Peugeot) cars with the "Puretech" petrol engine which also used a "wet" cambelt and has been similarity problematic.
