Boot Open Sensor Fault?

Featured Replies

Every now and then my fiesta tells me there's a door open. A klaxon sounds, the "open doors" icon is illuminated in the drivers instrument panel, and on the centre console panel it says "boot open".

I stopped a few times to slam the boot shut but it still happens every half an hour or so.

I'm thinking it might be a loose wire or something.

Anyone heard of a problem like this?

Do you know where the boot sensor is that I may check on it?

The problem usually is with the micro switch in the boot latch mechanism. Not terribly easy to access as you have to remove trim from tailgate with quite a lot of plastic clips.

The micro switch is not user replaceable as it is potted in place. The easiest solution is to just replace latch mechanism. You can get get from breakers or eBay. Be careful with the knock off ones as I replaced mine and the latch broke after two months and boot won’t open anymore. It’s easy to do It yourself and is around 40 minutes of work with most of it trying not to break trim clips
