Cat converter

Recommended Posts

Ok, so it’s going to be a bit of a hefty message, looking for some answers or people who have perhaps some light to shine. Just to inform, I’m not well versed in mechanic.

A year ago, engine light displayed orange and I was told from diagnostics, I had a dodgy sensor that needed cleaning. 2 weeks later, it came on again after they had given it a clean. Garage told me it needed a new cat converter. Going for a second opinion, I went for an emissions test which came back good. My light came on and off a couple of times in the last year but generally has been off. I’ve put this down to a dodgy sensor.

Recently, it’s come on again and the diagnostics is coming back as ‘cat converter’ again and not sensor issue.

So, I’ve booked in for an emissions test next week to see if emissions are still okay, which will rule out the cat converter. Has anyone had a similar problem with the eco boost 15 plate ?

The car is still on finance and I have 2 grand give or take to pay off. Should I trade in and be done with it ? A new cat would cost 480. The car has nearly done 80,000 miles. What’s peoples thoughts? Can’t see me getting more than 2500 for it with its issues
