rugged tyres

It's going to be driven most every day on poorly tarmaced counntry roads, with loads of potholes, cracks and gutters that you get forced into to let other cars pass going the other direction.

I don't need an off road suv, but I was wondering is there such a thing as "rugged" tyres for a normal car that will cope better and not burst or get torn by the countless potholes and jagged edges of broken tarmac ?

Got alloy wheels fitted ? Gob them then get yersen some steel wheels and a set of 'Colway Tyres' rally tyres.....Job sorted.

Though your suspension/springs/bushes will still get hammered.

Tyres like these, most rally drivers use Colway Tyres, just about the best.

That's a name from the past, I used to fit Colway Remould Tyres to my cars when I was young because people in the know at the time reckoned they were better than budget tyres.

It was just a few miles from where I live. Sadly another industry lost to cheap Chinese imports.

With that spec it's probably on 205/55/16 tyres?  If so, you'll probably find there's enough sidewall give for them to survive that sort of abuse.

I've run 205/55/16s for around a decade now, mostly on rough B-roads and never damaged a sidewall once.  An old mate who drives the same roads with 18" alloys regularly blows through tyres!

Blinkin Heck! I never knew that 😞
Wonder what the amateur or pro rally drivers use nowadays.

Petrol cars are being phased out in favor of Flintstone power and 'rock' hard wheels 🤣

I used Colway remoulds on my first car and liked them, I found they were better in the wet than cheap budgets (Debrica, Marshals etc) I later was forced to buy. They used Michelin tread patens, I understand used Avon Rubber and of course were made in Langley Moor in Durham. I still see Fred Henderson, who used to run their Competition department (saw him at Croft last weekend), also my brother uses his garage for servicing his cars.

Anyway, going back to topic. I have seen tyres advertised as 'Reinforced' or 'Extra Load' which have stiffer sidewalls which might be less prone to damage. I don't know if Run-flats will be the same.
