idle control valve help!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been having issues with my Ford Fiesta 2005 MK5 for a while now - for a while, it has been stalling frequently and not idling properly when started or slowing down, for example when you accelerate it goes back down to 500 revs for a while before going back up sounding rumbly and like it needs to stall. I got a mechanic out who checked for air leaks etc and has confirmed no leaks but he isn't sure what the issue is. I've changed the spark plugs, and cleaned the throttle body-I'm thinking it may need a new idle control valve but unsure which part to buy as there seem to be 2 different ones, and can't seem to locate it on the car engine. I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction or let me know if the valve is part of the throttle body and if the whole thing would need replacing?!

Thanks in advance! Please help urgently as I need to try to pass my driving test 😂

Isn't the idle controlled by the throttle body on these?

When you cleaned the throttle body, did you just clean it in situ or removed and cleaned the back too? And blow some cleaner down the little holes?

Check the MAF sensor is clean and that the air filter is in good condition and not damp and the HT leads are good too.

New ICV's if seperate are not that expensive, removal and a thorough clean with spray carb cleaner. If your extreemly careful you could use brake clutch cleaner but it destroys any rubber bits.

Thanks for this! Could it possibly be next to the throttle body, and if so do you think its worth giving it a proper clean as before hand I did not fully take it off?  Wasn't sure if it could be taken off or if its physically attached to the throttle body.

Thanks for this! Hoping this will be the fix.
