Installing aftermarket reverse camera, pins 14 & 15 apim

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm the proud owner of a 2020 Ford Fiesta mk8. I am trying to install an aftermarket reverse camera into my stock sync 3 unit.

I have bought an adapter that is meant to plug into pins 14 and 15 of the apim (pictured), which has an RCA plug on the end to feed to the camera. I have taken the dash apart and I've found that pins 14 and 15 are already wired in my original apim.

I'm wondering what these could be wired to, and if that means I have the OEM wiring already available in my car? If I do have the camera wiring already in my car, where would I find the end of it so that I can connect it to my camera without using the APIM?

I'm not sure what to do next, I feel like I may have to buy one of those aftermarket looms to add onto my existing loom if I can't figure out where the pin 14/15 wires go to. I've heard about a grey plug that can sometimes be found in the back of the car (I'm guessing near the PAM (Parking aid module?), but I can't see a plug there myself. I do have stock rear parking sensors installed.

I've included a picture of pin 14 and 15 on my stock apim loom, it's the white/green wire and the brown wire to the right. I've also included a picture of my RCA adapter.

Many thanks,

Steve

This is a Focus but still very useful information:

I've looked at the photo but very hard to tell, are you looking at the right numbers ?

Thank you, I saw that post but it seems his pin 14 and 15 didn't have existing wires plugged in, which is why I'm puzzled that mine does. I feel like if it already has wires in then I must have the camera wiring somewhere, but I'm not sure.

Yes, you can just about see the number's 1 and 18 at the end of the connector in the photo.

https://imgur.com/a/cVgpxVz I have drawn an arrow to pins 14 and 15

If you already have the pins in the connector you probably have the wiring already, check in the boot on the drivers side behind the boot liner near the lights there's normally a grey connector that you can plug a oem camera to.

As Ricky has said, drivers side rear quarter panel.

You will need a different camera if you use the Ford wiring.

Hmm I'll have to have another look for this grey connector. I had a look under the rear quarter (drivers side) and all I could find was the PAM with all connectors plugged into either the PAM or the light bulbs.

If I have the camera cabling already in place, I suppose it's possible I could wire the camera up directly using the diagrams you've provided.

Rear Camera connections:

I have a PAM unit fitted into my car, it has two sockets side by side, only one is in use. The unused one has twelve pins, what could that be for? I do have rear sensors and an aftermarket camera. There is no sign of any unsed grey connectors in the area. These grey connectors, do they have 12 pins?

Thank you for the diagrams, I will see if I can work something out, otherwise I might disconnect the wires from pins 14 & 15 and test to see if it effects the parking sensors. I'm hoping to retain parking sensor functionality whilst having the after market camera feed.

That's really interesting because my car has two sockets on the PAM, and both are in use. The one on the left has more pins than the one on the right.
