Turn signal indicator barely audible

Featured Replies

Specifically on an '08 Focus ST, but may apply to other models of that era...

Especially when driving at motorway speeds, or any Led Zeppelin track, the indicator audible warning is anything but.

Is there a way to increase the volume of the audible warning ?

I don't want Big Ben, but at least more like the town hall clock - I suppose one solution is to listen to Radio 3, but knowing my luck, they will be playing a concert including the 1812....

Speak up, I cant't hear you !

I know how to do it on a 1970's car (in fact I did it a couple of years ago), but I don't know whether the buzzer I fitted could be fitted to a modern car, ie one where signals go through a BCM and you don't have separate relays etc).

I think it should be possible if the indicator switch actually switches 12v (which I suspect it does) and if you can readily get at the wires before they get to the BCM (which I really don't know).

This sort of thing...

(although 95dB is probably a bit loud for the inside of a car)

Thanks Al.  I have looked at the Haynes "typical" wiring diagrams, and it looks like the indicators are controlled through the GEM, with the left/right selected by earthing one of the inputs.  The GEM in the fusebox then drives the relevant side.  As to where the audible signal comes from, I can only assume it is in the instrument cluster and controlled by the "Middle CANBUS".

Perhaps a pair of diodes from the rear indicators to a sounder might be a solution !

It might be.... but we've already reached the limit of my electrical knowledge of 'modern' car electrics (and possibly exceeded it!) so someone else will have to advise. Good luck.
