Featured Replies

Hi guys im back again sorry.

Just bought recently and picking things up as i go along.

When i go into 4th gear and put my.foot down i get bad vibration right through the car for 3 seconds then it goes it does the same in 5th gear aswel.

ONLY 4TH AND 5TH no other gears clutch feels good no rattle etc off dual mass gears feel nice and tight change fine.

Any help.please much appreciated

Any ideas please guys before i have to put it in garage thanks

Usually vibration comes from engine mounts either broken or loose?

Sounds like you're changing up too early.  Hold the lower gear a bit longer if you're trying to accelerate quickly.

Yes mate it does sound like that but does it on motorway aswel so thats not the case

Which engine and gearbox do you have?

6 speed gear box  2.0  TDCI  engine

Thanks.  First thing I'd check is the crankshaft pulley.  (The one that drives the aux belt).  They're made in 2 sections with a rubber damper in the middle.  That rubber may have broken down and be allowing excess movement on the pulley.

If that's fine then my next suggestion would be the DMF unfortunately.  I know you said it seems ok at idle but the forces are greater at low rpm in high gears.

Thanks matr appreciate it. But wouldnt it do it through all gears if it was the dual mass flywheel.

Thanks

No.  As I say, the forces are higher and more prolonged in higher gears.  In lower gears you pick up speed much more quickly so you're not labouring the engine in the same way.  Same reason that codes like overboost are rarely triggered until motorway speeds due to the prolonged acceleration.

Although, now I re-read it as being 4th & 5th on a 6sp 'box, without being 6th as well, that does sound more like a gearbox issue now.

Took the car for a drive this afternoon down the motorway and it dont vibrate at higher speeds in any gear just round the streets if that makes sense at lower speeds.

Also seen a friend who iv not seen in a while he says these suffer from wet belt failure. Does mine have a wet belt  its a 2007  TDCI  2.0 6 speed manual  thanks guys

Not sure why you'd be accelerating in 4th or 5th around the streets?  30mph cruising is 4th in one of these.  Goes back to the earlier suggestion of changing up too early.

There's no wet-belt on your engine.

No problem.  I think it'll be easier if you can get a local garage tech to sit in the car with you over a short test drive.  Then you can show them exactly what's happening instead of trying to put it into text.

Regarding the DPF, it may have one, but not all of the 2.0 TDCI's did in 2007.  If it does have one, it's right under the car, roughly in the middle between front and rear.  If you can get a picture of the exhaust in that area, we can confirm whether yours has both a DPF & cat or whether it just has a cat.
