Ford Focus mk1 TDCI 1.8 2004

Featured Replies

Hello, can any one help me,

I have a ford focus mk1 TDCI 1.8 that's taking a while to start to the point i need another battery or a jump (if on my own a bump start)

so this is the stuff I have done by looking on google, I have changed the fuel filter, glow plugs (service parts, air oil filters etc.) new injector washers (as they was leaking air pasted them) also the fuel pump regulator valve as I have a P0251 code and nothing as changed, I jigged up the injectors one by one out the car with some space fuel line pipe and turned the car over and all 4 sprayed fuel (one of them that one being injector number 4 the leak back fuel quite a lot)  don't think that's the issue if it is some one let me know and I can change that one injector.

with a bump start the car will start and run first time just takes a long time with the key to the point the battery is too low, also randomly cuts out when driving and when you try and put your foot down the car will go in some sort of limp mode and the glow plug light flashes I have to turn the key off then on so get it out of limp mode.

use easy start and the will fire up first time but don't like using that.

on turning the key I get white smoke coming out the exhaust when started black smoke then dies down to next to no smoke.

I am at this point that I don't have a lot of money to throw at the car but I wont it working, I thinking is it the fuel pump or is it that injector I don't want to replace the pump and it doesn't fix the issue same as the injector just need some help can it be that one injector or something else I missing.

thanks in advance!

Hello David, you need to stop trying to guess whats wrong. It gets very expensive very quickly and nine times out of ten the guess will be wrong.

Have you tried reading the diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) ? If the vehicle has gone in to limp mode at some time then there must be some codes.

Have you got a Windows laptop ? If yes then download FORScan (it's free) and use the basic ELM327(modified) connection cable to read the codes.

How many miles has the engine done ?

Excess leak-off on one injector will mean less fuel pressure in the rail.  I would change that injector personally.

Are you sure you have the correct battery on the vehicle?
