Can't find size of this bolt?

Featured Replies

I got another rounded bolt to deal with. Got twist socket to take it off but need to know replacement size. And can't find it on 7zap. It's the bolt that holds knuckle onto shock strut.IMG_20230412_183302.thumb.jpg.48655a9e8b7c357d7e6f52b0bfbe1540.jpg

If need be I'll have to try other side hopefully that will be fine and I can just take measurements. But I'd rather know first so Iv got something to double check my measurements with.

Thanks guys, much appreciated 👍

Very true, found one on Amazon too. Part 1382597

The only twist sockets Iv got are 3/8 but my impact is 1/2 drive. Iam gonna try with breaker bar first but not much space for leverage. I've never used the twist sockets with impact wrench. Am not sure if it will just chew up the bolt head. Anyone have any experience getting a rounded, maybe seized bolt out of this strut collar?

You really need a better fitting socket set!

I wouldn't try a twist socket on an impact wrench personally.  But if you do, just press the trigger in very short bursts.

I'm a fan of a 3ft breaker bar.  If there's no space for that, you can always hook a spanner over a shorter bar or another spanner for extra leverage.  Just take care not to slip off and risk injury.

If you do resort to the impact, I'd suggest at very least putting on some good safety goggles in case the socket explodes.

I've never tried twist sockets myself, but I was impressed by a video I watched a while back of someone testing Sealey's 'lock-on' sockets.

Another suggestion to add to Tom's that might be a bit safer than the spanner trick if trying to get as much leverage as possible in a limited space is to get a bit of metal pipe (which you could cut to the best length of course) and slip this over a ratchet/spanner.

Which impact gun have you got? they usually have 3 settings

Always use the right size tool for the job 👍

The one on the left should get the nut off without too much fuss 🤣

And am using 6 sided impact set from US pro

But invest in some twist sockets they are best thing Iv bought in long time.

I bought a 3/8 breaker bar wasn't long just about 15" but didn't have much more space than that. Took some pressure but got it moving in the end! Now Iv replaced bolt with new, and cos I didn't have much time I sprayed all bolts with pen oil again and cracked and tightened most ready for doing springs and shocks..

Another thing I've bought! A widow maker lol. But I think it's bit safer than the cheaper ones.Screenshot_20230415_200744.thumb.jpg.9beeea072a9fd4bd19d67273a47b04c4.jpg

Nice one.  I've just stripped mine down today and 1 of the bolts slipped with 15mm socket and 3ft breaker bar.  Ended up hammering on a 9/16 inch socket and got bolt out with breaker bar.  Managed to get 2 x bolts on ebay so thanks for that part number as 7-zap isn't too clear with no bolt being shown for the knuckle diagram.
