Sync 3 not connecting via usb

Can anyone help with Ford Sync 3? I’ve done a system and master reset, the phone connects to my phone via Bluetooth fine. but still can’t connect via USB to use maps/ apps just says: apple devices must be plugged into syncs usb port to work with mobile apps. I have tried using official apple usb cable, and both usb ports but nothing. It charges the phone fine. 
 

any advice would be great thank you

    I have the exact same problem with one iPhone but not another one. My 13 works great but my wife's 15 is like yours.
