Swapping an Ecoboost engine from a Focus to Fiesta?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if a 1L 100PS Ecoboost from a Focus would be a straight swap into a 1L 100PS Ecoboost Fiesta?

Specifically, the Fiesta engine is stamped SFJA and the Focus engine stamped M2DA.

I bought the Focus engine primarily as a spare for its ancillary parts but am now beginning to wonder if the whole thing might prove to be a potential swap should it ever be required. Unfortunately the two engines aren't colocated so I can't easily perform a visual comparison. From casual memory I think they look identical though, but then the differences might be too subtle to notice but nevertheless significant? Or they might be obviously different but I just haven't noticed!

Iirc from another thread (which I can't find at the mo!) the M2DA has a single mass flywheel and is intended to be paired with an IB5 box as used in the Fiesta. So sounds a better match than a DMF version meant for a 6 speed box.

Ooh okay, that sounds like a stroke of luck.

Here are some pics of the Focus M2DA engine and from what I can tell it looks just like the one in our Fiesta:

It does indeed have a single mass flywheel... albeit a somewhat corroded one at that!!

This may be the one I was thinking of. Coincidentally you seem to have posted on it😃

How times have changed! ...or is it us who have changed???

40 years ago it would have been "Can I fit a 2.8L V6 from a Capri into my Fiesta?"

Or possibly wouldn't even have asked - would've just cracked on with it regardless and worked it out along the way!

The base engine, including the turbo is the same, 100PS to 100PS.

It could be something daft like the flywheel or, more importantly, the engine harness that makes it unique to Focus.

I would ensure I used all the ancillaries and engine harness from the Fiesta engine when fitting it

And l'm pretty sure the answer would of been yes!! - plenty of space in the old fiesta for the 2.8 - problems started when you tried to mount said engine and when you tried to plan where the hell the transmission was gonna go!!😂😂

And now a 1.0 turbo with a little electrical assistance can provide more power and torque than that heavy, thirsty 2.8 V6 lump!

But never sound the same
